+Abu Simbel is a majestic complex of two massive [rock-cut](/wiki/Rock_Cut) temples in southern [Egypt](/wiki/Egypt), near the border with Sudan. Carved into the mountainside during the reign of [Pharaoh](/wiki/Pharaoh) [Ramesses II](/wiki/Ramesses_II), these iconic monuments were famously relocated in the 1960s to save them from the rising waters of Lake Nasser.
