The Austrian Netherlands was a territory in the Low Countries, ruled by the Habsburg Monarchy from 1714 to 1797. Formed from the former Spanish Netherlands after the War of the Spanish Succession, it was a valuable, yet often contested, possession before its annexation by revolutionary France.
