+## History
+The origins of chess can be traced back to India, around the 6th century AD, with a game called [Chaturanga](/wiki/Chaturanga). This game is believed to be the ancestor of chess, as well as other strategy games like [Shogi](/wiki/Shogi) and [Makruk](/wiki/Makruk). From India, Chaturanga spread to Persia, where it was known as [Shatranj](/wiki/Shatranj). The game then journeyed through the Islamic world, reaching Europe by the 9th or 10th century.
+In Europe, chess underwent significant changes. The [queen](/wiki/Queen) and [bishop](/wiki/Bishop) pieces acquired their modern moves, dramatically increasing the game's speed and complexity. This "new chess" or "queen's chess" became popular during the [Renaissance](/wiki/Renaissance). The first modern [chess book](/wiki/Chess_book) was printed in 1475. Over the centuries, standardized [rules](/wiki/Rules) were established, leading to the game we know today. The 19th and 20th centuries saw the rise of [chess clubs](/wiki/Chess_club), [tournaments](/wiki/Tournament), and professional players, solidifying chess's status as a global intellectual sport.
