+A **common noun** names any general [person](/wiki/person), [place](/wiki/place), [thing](/wiki/thing), or idea. Unlike a [Proper Noun](/wiki/proper_noun), it does not identify a specific entity and remains uncapitalized unless it begins a sentence.
