Epiglottis

The epiglottis is a leaf-shaped flap of cartilage situated at the base of the tongue. It acts as a crucial valve, folding over the Larynx opening during Swallowing to prevent food and liquid from entering the windpipe. This ensures safe passage of nutrients to the esophagus and maintains a clear airway for breathing.
