![](/uploads/1765071148421-nlwdqxzmj8j.webp)The **Grunt** is the common denizen of [Nevada](https://madnesscombat.fandom.com/wiki/Nevada), and is distinguished by his basic appearance, with a simple grey shirt and shoes, with no other pieces of clothing or gear, which also makes the design the basis for nearly every other character in the series. In terms of the [A.A.H.W](https://madnesscombat.fandom.com/wiki/Agency_Against_Hank_Wimbleton), he is the weakest type of unit within its ranks but the standard unit of the [Sheriff's Organisation](https://madnesscombat.fandom.com/wiki/Sheriff%27s_Organisation). Up to [Madness Combat 4: Apotheosis](https://madnesscombat.fandom.com/wiki/Madness_Combat_4:_Apotheosis), despite there not being an A.A.H.W at the time, the Grunt was the primary enemy type of the series up until [Madness Combat 5: Depredation](https://madnesscombat.fandom.com/wiki/Madness_Combat_5:_Depredation), when they were almost entirely replaced by the [Agents](https://madnesscombat.fandom.com/wiki/Agent) as the main combatants and cannon fodder. They are usually armed with melee weapons, such as pipes, bats or knives, or with light weaponry, such as handguns or submachine guns. Through the course of the series, at least one grunt has appeared in every episode, with the exceptions of which being in [Madness Combat 7.5](https://madnesscombat.fandom.com/wiki/Madness_Combat_7.5), [Madness Combat 10: Abrogation](https://madnesscombat.fandom.com/wiki/Madness_Combat_10:_Abrogation), [Madness Combat 11: Expurgation](https://madnesscombat.fandom.com/wiki/Madness_Combat_11:_Expurgation), and [Madness Combat 12: Contravention](https://madnesscombat.fandom.com/wiki/Madness_Combat_12:_Contravention).
Grunts are not very resilient or strong-willed, as in [Madness Combat 2: Redeemer](https://madnesscombat.fandom.com/wiki/Madness_Combat_2:_Redeemer) a grunt surrenders to Hank and gives him information on where the Sheriff went. Some grunts even work non-combatant jobs, such as a few who appear as shopkeepers or vendors, such as the [Hot dog vendor](https://madnesscombat.fandom.com/wiki/Hot_dog_vendor).
Grunts can easily be confused with [Civilians](https://madnesscombat.fandom.com/wiki/Civilian) as they look completely identical with the only difference being that civilians are not A.A.H.W. affiliated and complete non-combatants. The term "grunt" can also be used to refer to any character who is not wearing any armor or has any notable features on their body.
## **Personality**
Their description describes them as lacking in both tactics and skill which can be clearly seen both in the animations and [MADNESS: Project Nexus](https://madnesscombat.fandom.com/wiki/MADNESS:_Project_Nexus). Grunts are as uncouth as they are bland. Slow-witted, poorly disciplined, incredibly rude and unable to properly utilize most forms of weaponry. In the MADNESS: Project Nexus, their chatter reveals that they either overestimate their own skill or severely underestimate their enemies, and appear quite enthusiastic, confidently shouting that they'll 'take care of it' before dying almost instantaniously.
