+Machicolation is a floor opening in a projecting parapet, often found in medieval [Castle](/wiki/castle) architecture. It allowed defenders to drop projectiles, such as stones or boiling liquids, directly onto attackers at the base of the wall. This defensive feature provided critical protection for [Fortification](/wiki/fortification) gatehouses and towers.
