Ray-finned fish (Actinopterygii) are the most diverse class of Vertebrate life, thriving in nearly all aquatic habitats. Their defining feature is fins supported by slender, bony rays connected directly to the internal skeleton. This vast group encompasses most species commonly recognized as Fish today.
