+The Somali Plate is a minor [Tectonic Plate](/wiki/tectonic_plate) underlying much of eastern [Africa](/wiki/africa) and the western Indian Ocean. It slowly separates from the larger African Plate along the [East African Rift](/wiki/east_african_rift), a geological process shaping the continent's future.
