Supernormal Stimulus

A supernormal stimulus is an artificial or exaggerated cue that evokes a stronger response from an animal than the natural stimulus for which it evolved. These powerful signals often hijack innate [[Fixed Action Patterns|Fixed Action Pattern]]s or [[Instinct|Instinct]]s, leading to behaviors that can be non-adaptive or even detrimental.
