+October, derived from the Latin `octo` meaning 'eight', holds its name from an earlier Roman calendar where it indeed was the [Eighth Month](/wiki/eighth_month). The subsequent addition of [January](/wiki/january) and February to the start of the year shifted its position, making it the tenth month in our current Gregorian system.
